We are recruiting for an Application Engineer who will be part of our Application Engineer Team. This team is responsible for supporting application systems for Cambridge University Press and Assessment, running Linux and Windows Operating Systems for the web tier.

The Application Engineer role is a key contact for significant number of exam systems applications. The engineers are part of Business-As-Usual work, projects, and on-demand work packages in an Agile and DevOps environment. It is an Application Engineer's role to review, maintain, troubleshoot, and correct critical production and non-production systems in a busy on-premises data centre, Cloud, and SasS environment while maintaining best practice as suggested by ITIL, Agile and other industry principles.

What will you do in this role?
Manage and plan for the implementation of projects in the operational/support environments including evaluation, feasibility, technical investigations, proof of concepts, releases, changes, implementation, training, and knowledge transfer to and from other support teams.
Day to day provision of second/third line support for technologies, including handling of Incidents, Service Requests, Problem Records, Change reviews and approvals, team tasks, and security investigations, that the Exam Technology owns within agreed SLAs. Support work will be UK and Philippines hours on shifts schedule. Out of business hours support, on-call, or weekend work, will be expected based on Business Operations demand.
Organise and manage maintenance activities, including deployments, ad-hoc work packages, service improvements and patching of servers, to support business peaks following approved instructions.
Be the Application Subject Matter Experts. Produce quality up-to-date in-depth technical documentation, present technical concepts to wider audience at all levels, and conduct knowledge transfer within the team.
Build and maintain effective relationships and lines of communication within and with other teams, third party suppliers and the Business Streams to facilitate effective delivery.
Guide engineers on the job to help them develop their skill sets and become more effective in their roles.
