Job Purpose

The Senior Quality Analysts' main role is to plan, design and execute quality tests across their respective tech platforms to ensure that delivered software meets business defined quality/acceptance criteria and is fit for purpose.

They will work closely with business Product Owners, Project Managers / Scrum Masters, and Development teams to understand needs and to develop the overall test plan of a given project. They will then develop and execute to this test plan. The role is a hands-on quality testing role and post holders will be highly proficient testers in at least one area of quality specialism, i.e. automated, manual, performance etc.. They will often take charge of the quality of small to medium sized projects and will be expected to delegate tasks and oversee the work of junior/mid-level quality analysts.

Principal Duties


  • Defines standards for development of manual & automated test scripts, deployment and reuse. Takes part in formal reviews of business needs and app designs.
  • Ensures proper test coverage exists based on needs and design specifics.
  • Shapes overall technical test strategy by proposing solutions & tools.


  • Defines & implements quality process improvements & metrics focused on defect prevention.
  • Creates QA procedures & user instructions to ensure a reusable process & tools approach.
  • Develops and/or maintains manual and automated test plans & cases.


  • Ensures test environment reflects business needs to execute tests
  • Develops in-house test tools & harnesses where needed; maintains overall test tools for regression testing.
  • Takes part in the selection of automated test development tools.


  • Executes manual and/or automated test scripts for most complex projects.
  • Coordinates test schedules, work and resource plans; manages progress of all test activities against plan.
  • Establishes testing entrance and exit criteria.
  • Identifies and manages critical path of testing
  • Execute project regression testing tasks.
  • Trains others on testing techniques and automation.


  • Identifies test issues and reports to stakeholder
  • Manages regression tests for future projects.
  • Defines and coordinates production verification and validation
  • Perform risk analysis at project management or release level.


  • Directs most complex and creative cross - functional assignments and multiple phases of a project
  • Develops departmental technical policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with vendors


  • Supervises the day to day tasks of junior and mid-level Quality Analysts.
  • Takes charge of completion and implementation of multiple major initiatives.
  • Takes charge of meeting on-time and on-budget project goals.
  • Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
  • Provides tech solutions to daily issues and manages relationships to provide on-going customer service.
  • Provides technical testing evaluation estimates on various projects.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant IT, Software or QA related degree.
  • At least 5 years of software testing expertise gained across at least one of the principle testing specialism, i.e. manual, automated, performance etc.
  • Experience of providing software quality processes within an Agile environment and to geographically dispersed customers.
  • Able to supervise junior/mid-level quality analysts on day to day tasks, supporting their development and taking responsibility for their deliverables.
  • Experience of working within an Agile development process (Scrum or similar).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; able to communicate, with colleagues of all levels across the Press.
