About the role

Want to develop your editorial skills while making an impact in global education?

Cambridge University Press is recruiting for an Academic Books/Textbooks Editorial Intern. Working with a team of friendly and collaborative Editors in Cambridge and New York, the Academic Books/Textbooks Editorial Intern role will cover a mixture of responsibilities to give you a rich and varied experience of tasks undertaken by Books Editorial and Textbook Development staff. You will develop an excellent understanding of where Books Editorial and Textbook Development sit within the publishing ecosystem and obtain the essential skills required for a career in academic books or textbook publishing.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Undergo training in academic publishing roles and apply that training to real projects.
  • Support commissioning editors, development editors, and editorial assistants with routine administrative tasks and communication with authors and internal colleagues.
  • Assist development editors with their textbook titles, including drafting development assessments and analysis of review data.
  • Edit and write copy about titles for marketing purposes.
  • Help to create or edit resources for authors, colleagues, and readers/students.
  • Assist members of the Working Group for equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging in their work to promote these commitments in our academic titles.
  • Learn about standout content, effective pedagogy, and best-fit e-learning tools and software

About you

You will be a proactive and detail-oriented individual with a keen interest in market research, admin support and textbook development. While no previous editorial experience is required, strong communication skills and excellent writing ability are essential. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, adaptable, and able to work both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced team environment.

To be successful in this role, the following skills, values and behaviours are desirable:

  • An outstanding level of written English and clear communication skills.
  • Strong proof-reading skills and attention to detail.
