Job Purpose

Participate in planning, development, deployment, maintenance and enhancement of applications, systems and/or infrastructure, upholding the Business Productivity Tools team. Undertake technical planning, business process analysis and system implementation for projects related to the Cambridge Single Strategy, enabling customers from Cambridge University Press and a sister organization to work effectively. Enable the transition from project implementation to a ‘business as usual' model. Responsible for creation of system documentation and related artefacts.

Principal Duties

  • Proactively communicate with colleagues in response to 2nd line helpdesk incidents and requests through voice/video calls and screensharing where appropriate?
  • Work alongside various business areas to discern their processes and the (largely SaaS) applications they use to uphold these processes?
  • Facilitate customers from across Cambridge University Press and sister organizations in their remit to work more collaboratively, enabling transitions onto single systems where this will benefit the business?
  • Develop and maintain subject-matter expertise on designated application(s) to inform decisions and approaches taken by business stakeholders as well as project and BAU-support teams?
  • Create and maintain user and technical documentation for designated applications?
  • Ensure support artefacts (including but not limited to known issues, workarounds, training plans, RACI matrices, backup and disaster recovery plans) are created, reviewed and maintained?
  • Keep informed of technical innovations and developments on new and existing platforms and applications to apply that knowledge in delivering the best possible service to internal and external customers?
  • Participate in training on, testing and documentation of agreed solutions to ensure smooth and successful implementation of changes?
  • Represent the applications team in meetings with stakeholders on applications they are responsible for reporting?

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant professional qualifications and/or experience?
  • Appropriate industry-standard certification or at least 3 years' experience in 1st/2nd line support and/or IT training?
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills?
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to both technical and non-technical audiences. The post-holder must be fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Conceptual knowledge of information technologies and methodologies, and an aptitude for learning new tools.
  • Ability to work well on cross-functional project teams and foster team commitment to tasks.
  • Knowledge of project-management and/or business analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of, and experience of working within the ITIL framework.
  • Experience in the industry or in a production/service environment.
  • Experience of one or more of the following are not required but is an advantage:
    • SharePoint Online
    • Jira/Confluence (Server) Administration
    • ITSM Administration
    • Basic HTML/CSS/XML
    • Workday
