We are seeking a technically proficient and security-driven Data Security Engineer to join our Group Security Team at Cambridge University Press & Assessment, aligned to UK working hours. In this critical role, you'll safeguard sensitive organisational data by implementing robust encryption, enforcing access controls, and ensuring compliance with global data protection standards. You will work cross-functionally to improve data security architectures, support audits and incident investigations, and lead the charge in educating teams on best practices. What will you do as a Data Security Engineer?

As a Data Security Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain best-in-class data protection measures across the enterprise.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and implementing encryption and data classification solutions.
• Collaborating with Identity and Security Engineering teams to ensure least privilege access.
• Supporting incident response through forensic input and investigation guidance.
• Leading data security reviews and audits across on-premise and cloud platforms.
• Enabling tokenisation, data masking, and secure handling of test data.
• Ensuring compliance with regulations like GDPR and PCI DSS.
• Developing centralised monitoring and response capabilities for data-related threats.
• Conducting knowledge-sharing sessions and continuous improvements to controls.

What makes you the ideal candidate for this role?

You'll thrive in this role if you bring:

• A degree and 5+ years of experience in a technical security role.
• Hands-on knowledge of data protection frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, OWASP, etc.).
• Strong command of encryption methods (AES, RSA, TLS) and key management.
• Experience in DLP, data classification, and cloud security (AWS, Azure, M365).
• Scripting experience (Python, PowerShell) to support automation and analytics.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CCSP, CompTIA, Microsoft).
• Excellent English communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
