We are looking for a passionate Lead Software Engineer who will be part of our Education Technology Development Team in Manila.  The role will play a key role in creating and developing solutions for platforms used by learners across the globe. The Manila hub is located in Makati City, operating to support the university's global operations.

What will you do in this role?

In this role, you will be focusing on creating solutions for our global eLearning platforms, with particular focus on being able to continuously deliver secure, scalable, reusable and lovable solutions. 

  • Develop and maintain complex, feature-rich web services and applications with different technologies and in accordance with the agreed coding standards and software development best practices and principles (i.e., SOLID & DRY principles)  
  • Carry out solutions review and code review, develop expertise as an SME of our systems, and get familiarity and confidence with the tools that the teams are using (i.e., source control, deployment tool, and issue tracking software) 
  • Work within a cross-functional and self-managing Agile team which demonstrates proactive ownership of one's work, resolves issues and escalates as appropriate, contributes to the planning whether it may be technical process improvements or estimations of tasks, and lastly, delivers tasks within the agreed timetables and quality.
  • Guide and develops the performance of the team in line with Cambridge's company values and leadership competencies to achieve business goal.  

 

What makes you the ideal candidate in this role?

The ideal candidate should have a good technical degree or equivalent experience and a firm grasp on the foundational concepts of software engineering (i.e., design analysis and algorithms, OOP, SOA). You will be the ideal candidate if you enjoy working in a fast-based environment and being able to work with different stakeholders in a problem-solving capacity. 

In addition, experience, knowledge, or expertise in the following are essential: 

  • Demonstrable understanding of software development principles (i.e., SOLID & DRY), the elements of SDLC in a commercial environment, and object-oriented software development skills ideally using Vue Js or Typescript (Knowledge in NodeJS is desirable). 
  • Strong critical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal. 
  • Knowledge of agile development methodologies and experience in working with a team that leverages heavily in AWS, that utilizes Continuous Integration & Deployment, and that creates unit tests within a test-driven development framework. 
  • Experience in application integrations and Service Oriented Architecture
