Job Title: Business Development Representative

Salary: £35,200 - £45,700

Location: Cambridge, UK/Hybrid

Contract: 1-year Fixed Term Contract/Secondment Opportunity

Hours: Full Time - 35 hours per week with other working patterns considered on request

Join us as a Business Development Representative and help bring Cambridge content to new learners across Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Latin America.

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

About the role

The Business Development team is at the forefront of many exciting licensing activities. As a Representative in our team, you will be key to the success of the translation licensing function, working with publishing partners to bring Cambridge content to new learners globally.

You will help to expand the reach of Cambridge content across EMEA and Latin America, working closely with international publishing partners and internal teams to ensure smooth, effective licensing processes.

You will contribute to the success of our busy Business Development team by building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, deepening your understanding of new publishing programmes each season, and representing Cambridge at key industry events. You will collaborate across functions and geographies, helping to drive sales and maintain high standards in how we serve authors and the academic community.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with rights customers to drive sales in EMEA and Latin America
  • End‑to‑end management of translation rights workflows to ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Build knowledge of the Cambridge backlist and new titles to inform licensing discussions and partner engagement.
  • Represent Cambridge at the Frankfurt Book Fair and other key interactions to maintain visibility and industry presence, nurturing existing partnerships whilst seeking out new collaboration opportunities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the US, UK and Philippines to co-ordinate tasks, share updates, and better serve our customer base.

This position has been classified as a hybrid role, requiring the selected candidate to typically spend 40-60% of their time collaborating and connecting face-to-face at their dedicated location. Aside from our hybrid principles, other flexible working requests will be considered from the first day of employment, including other work arrangements should you require adjustments due to a disability or long-term health condition.

About You

You are an excellent communicator with a natural ability to build positive, productive relationships. You approach your work with focus and care, balancing accuracy with strong organisational skills that help you stay on top of shifting priorities. Curious and innovative, you enjoy exploring new ideas, researching opportunities, and finding smarter ways of working.

You are fully proficient across Microsoft 365, and comfortable navigating business systems, including CRM tools. You demonstrate initiative, sound judgement, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues across different teams and time zones.

You will bring:

  • A demonstrable history of building strong professional relationships with customers and colleagues in an international environment.
  • Experience applying negotiation skills in rights, sales, or licensing environments.
  • A track record of managing your workload efficiently while maintaining high levels of accuracy.
  • Confidence with technology, including ease with Microsoft 365, CRM or rights‑management systems.

If you meet the above minimum requirements, we encourage you to apply. We would also encourage applications from those who have basic typesetting skills and experience using Adobe software who are eager to learn and develop their skills. Your application will be even stronger if you can also demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

  • Experience within a publishing or content acquisition environment
